'''Internal Links'''<br>
Internal links are hyperlinks that are on the same website as in this PWI Wiki.<br>
When you want to link to another PWI Wiki article page just type double brackets around the page title of the page you want to your link to go to, like this:<br>
<nowiki>[[Main Page]]</nowiki>
Written this way the link can be clicked on to take you to the page named in the brackets.<br>
The link above will take you to the PWI Wiki's "Main Page" article and look like this: [[Main Page]]
You can also assign a different text to display instead of the actual page link name by using a pipe character, "|" in the link. For example, "A link to <nowiki>[[Templates|the article on templates]]</nowiki>" is displayed as "A link to [[Templates|the article on templates]]". Clicking on the text "the article on templates" will take you to the [[Templates]] page in this wiki.
To create a link that goes directly to a section within a page you can write:<br>
<nowiki>[[Beginner's Guide#Questing|Questing for Beginners]]</nowiki>
that would display as: [[Beginner's Guide#Questing|Questing for Beginners]]<br>
In this example; "Beginner's Guide" is the Page name, "Questing" is the section within that page and "Questing for Beginners" is the text that is displayed for the link.
Here's another link: [[My Friendly Wiki Page Link]]. Note that the link is in orange, instead of gold, indicating that the page does not yet exist. If you click on that link it will try to make a page with the title "My Friendly Wiki Page Link". (Please don't make that page you'll ruin the example.)<br>
This can however be a shortcut way to create a page or sub-page of the one you are working on.
'''External Links'''<br>
If you have to create a link that is outside the website your Wiki is on (the PWI Wiki) then you will have to use a single bracket instead of a double bracket and use that website page's hyperlink address instead of an article's page name.<br>
So in a simple form, a link to the Wikipedia's "Help:Wiki markup" page would be written like this:<br>
<nowiki>[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Wiki_markup#Text_formatting Wiki Markup Help Page]</nowiki><br>
and shown as: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Wiki_markup#Text_formatting Wiki Markup Help Page]<br>
Note that the text after the first '''space''' preceding the URL, '''"Wiki Markup Help Page"''' is what gets displayed in the wiki.

The [[Template:Imagebox|Imagebox Template]] can be used to display images in various ways that conform to the style of this wiki.

Below is some basic help on how to create a new wiki page.
Creating a New Page[edit]
To start a new page like this one just type in the title name of the page that you want to create into the search field on the left side of this page. If your chosen page title has already been taken then the search will show a found link with that name.
If there is no page by your chosen title the search may still have multiple links that are as close as it could come to matching your request.
Just below the search page title, "Search results" is the next line on the page similar to the one below. If, for example, you searched on "Article Name" you'd get:
You searched for Article Name (all pages starting with "Article Name" | all pages that link to "Article Name")
If your search shows the link after "You searched for" with a red question mark, that means that the article doesn't exist. You can then click on that link to create that page.
Alternately, you can just put your article name after the URL "http://pwi-wiki.perfectworld.com/index.php/", go to that page, and then you can create the article by clicking "edit this page".
This game, PW (Perfect World) is great fun but so many things are left for us to figure out by trial and error. However, by creating new wiki pages you can help out your fellow Perfect World International players by providing them useful information.
When you do make your page it is a good idea to use the "Show preview" button while working on it. This will allow you to see if the page came out the way you intended before you actually save the page.
Links to Other Wiki Help Pages[edit]
Here is the first best PWI Wiki help link that you have probably already found: Sample Guide. Among other things, it shows you how to make the title header, a page line, and a time stamp signature.
Also, you should read the Wiki Style Guide to make sure that your article is written in a manner consistent with the other articles in the wiki.
There is also the Templates page, which includes templates for images, references, and various info markers.
The Imagebox Template will show you how to make your images fit this wiki's page style.
Other helpful Links:
- Wiki Cheat Sheet Page Shows commonly used Wiki formatting.
- Wiki Markup Help Page This page shows some basic wiki techniques.
- Help:Using colors This page shows how to use color styles.
- List of Colors This shows you many colors with there names and codes.
How to Examples[edit]
Leave a blank line between your lines of text to separate your text sections. Otherwise it will look like this even though you entered the text on two separate lines.
You can also use "<br>" for a linebreak.
This was actually written as one line using such a linebreak. (You can click "Edit" above to see the source for this section.)
To make a thin divider line type ---- on one line by itself. Use these sparingly so as not to make your pages look to busy, kind of like what this section is starting to look like.
To make a Header Bar just type two equal (=) signs around your Header title text like this "== Header Title ==" on a line by itself and there's your new:
Header Bar (Please Use Proper Title Capitalization)[edit]
If you use "===" instead of "==" it will make that a subsection, instead of a new main section, for example:
This is a Subsection Bar[edit]
Linking to Pages or Sections[edit]
Internal Links
Internal links are hyperlinks that are on the same website as in this PWI Wiki.
When you want to link to another PWI Wiki article page just type double brackets around the page title of the page you want to your link to go to, like this:
[[Main Page]]
Written this way the link can be clicked on to take you to the page named in the brackets.
The link above will take you to the PWI Wiki's "Main Page" article and look like this: Main Page
You can also assign a different text to display instead of the actual page link name by using a pipe character, "|" in the link. For example, "A link to [[Templates|the article on templates]]" is displayed as "A link to the article on templates". Clicking on the text "the article on templates" will take you to the Templates page in this wiki.
To create a link that goes directly to a section within a page you can write:
[[Beginner's Guide#Questing|Questing for Beginners]]
that would display as: Questing for Beginners
In this example; "Beginner's Guide" is the Page name, "Questing" is the section within that page and "Questing for Beginners" is the text that is displayed for the link.
Here's another link: My Friendly Wiki Page Link. Note that the link is in orange, instead of gold, indicating that the page does not yet exist. If you click on that link it will try to make a page with the title "My Friendly Wiki Page Link". (Please don't make that page you'll ruin the example.)
This can however be a shortcut way to create a page or sub-page of the one you are working on.
External Links
If you have to create a link that is outside the website your Wiki is on (the PWI Wiki) then you will have to use a single bracket instead of a double bracket and use that website page's hyperlink address instead of an article's page name.
So in a simple form, a link to the Wikipedia's "Help:Wiki markup" page would be written like this:
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Wiki_markup#Text_formatting Wiki Markup Help Page]
and shown as: Wiki Markup Help Page
Note that the text after the first space preceding the URL, "Wiki Markup Help Page" is what gets displayed in the wiki.
Image and File Uploads[edit]
Click the "Upload file" link in the Toolbox links on the left of every page to get to a page that has information and a form that is used to upload any images that you wish to use in your article. Please first check for available images that are already in the system that can be used so you don't upload a duplicate.
The Imagebox Template can be used to display images in various ways that conform to the style of this wiki.
Text Formating[edit]
There a number of ways to format text but I will give you some basic information. It is important that you try to use standard formatting and use some formatting like color sparingly to avoid making the work look to busy.
Italic text <---- To get this Type this ----> ''Italic text''
It is hard to see but you use two single apostrophes, ( ' ) before and after the target text.
Bold text <---- To get this Type this ----> '''Bold text'''
As in the italic text above but use three apostrophes, ( ' ) before and after the target text.
A simple way to do that is to type the text, select it with your mouse, and then hit the bold or italic buttons over the edit box.
Using Colored Text[edit]
From the Wiki Help:Using colors pages:
To make a word have color, use: <span style="color:ColorID">text</span>
Replacing "ColorID" above with the color's "Hex number", "Triplet" or the "Color's Name"
Examples:
<span style="color:red">red writing</span> shows as: red writing
<span style="color:#0f0">green writing</span> shows as: green writing
<span style="color:#318CE7">light blue writing</span> shows as: light blue writing
Note: Please avoid using colored fonts unless it helps clarity. Coloring words in the middle of your text for no good reason makes for distracting reading. Please try to use bold and/or italics instead. For a good example of a page that makes use of colored fonts see the Cube of Fate article.
Trying Things Out[edit]
If you would like to try some these techniques to see what they can do before creating an article, you can create a sandbox page under your username.
If your wiki user name is XYZ then you can create the page "User:XYZ/Sandbox" (or some other name besides "Sandbox") and that will create a page for you to be able to play around with wiki markup, without creating an actual article that is open the the public wiki.
