  • A common question: "Will my gear wear out?"
  • Well, they will if you do that with it...

Most consumable items (potions, scrolls etc.) and manufacturing items (herbs, coal, Dragon Quest items etc.) do not wear out. They hang around until you get rid of them. A few special items (boutique chat icons, the aerogear and weapons you get from the Supply Stash) will last a short period of time (often a week) and then vanish.

Most gear (weapons, armor, and ornaments), however, does wear out eventually. Gear has an "endurance" statistic that goes down when used for combat. When this statistic is zero, the item is broken and useless.

  • Armor and ornament endurance is reduced when you take damage.
  • Weapon endurance is reduced when you attack.

Also, gear dropped from killed mobs normally starts out at half endurance.

Gear can be repaired, raising its endurance to the maximum, by choosing the "Repair" or "Repair All" options - found at the bottom of every NPC "Goods" window. Note: Some NPCs (Jewelcraftsmen, for instance) have the "Repair" buttons on their "Goods" window, but do not actually offer that service.

"Repair All" will repair all of your equipped items. To repair an individual item, including those which are not equipped, you will have to use the "Repair" option. To do so: click "Repair", then click the object you want to repair. You should note that there are a few NPCs which have the repair options, yet cannot repair gear.

Note - if you use the Genesis UI then the option is named "Fix All".

Repairing gear costs coins. Using the "Repair" option, you can hover the mouse over an item before repairing it to see its repair cost. The cost of repairs depends upon the value of the item. Glowing golden armor costs a lot more to repair than a pointy stick.

You don't need to wait for the item to break to repair it. It's best if you repair regularly, though there's no real need to do this during your early levels since you will grow out of the gear before it wears out. Of course, you can also save money by selling the item before it wears out.

Finally, it should be noted that the endurance level also affects the value of an item when selling it to an NPC or when decomposing it into chi stones or other items. Repaired gear is worth more to an NPC and produces more, and sometimes better, chi stones when decomposed than gear that is not at full endurance. Instance gear (such as a Twilight Temple weapon) needs to be fully repaired before it can be decomposed into a souledge.

NOTE: This is entirely separate from the "shatter" system - don't choose the "Repair shattered gear" option from the NPC, even though it sounds like it should repair your worn out gear, it won't. If your gear was shattered, see Shattered Gear for information on how to repair it.
