Noob Questions
Hey, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this kind of question, but I'll delete/move it if someone tells me to. Anyways: I am new to the idea of wikis in general, but I would like to become a regular contributor. My main two questions are how to place pictures and also how to add a new page. For example, we have a page for the Harpy Wraith, but I found no other page on any of the other world bosses. The Harpy Wraith page is well done; I was thinking of making similar pages for other world bosses, and then a World Boss page that explains what world bosses are, general drops, tactics, ecetera. This page would link to all of the other World Boss pages. (This is just an example of the pages I'd like to create.) Anyways, if anyone can help me, thank you very much. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this. -- Jeradal1 (In-game: Lost City- Christalah) 03:38, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
:You should download and play it before you make any decisions. Yes, it is technically 100% free to play, you don't pay anything unless you absolutely want to... But for added benefits (larger inventory & bank, binding charms, etc.) you'll have to pay unless you find someone selling them in a user shop. :: Great! Thanks for the timely reply and the help. I'll be gone on vacation from tomorrow to next wednesday, so I won't be able to get started right away, but I can't wait to contribute. I checked out the page that already exists, and I think it's very nice.  I'll definitely use that as a starting point and add the other world bosses to it.  I think I'd still like to add a separate world boss page, as technically a world boss is one which doesn't have any link at all to quests. An explanation of the differences between world bosses and normal bosses (besides the obvious level difference) is one that I feel could be useful to both pwi newbs and it would serve as an eaiser starting point for the seasoned vet looking to plan his faction's next kill.  Once again, thanks! (P.S. is there a way to auto-timestamp?)-- Jeradal1 06:47, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Can we start building a proper wiki now? As things are now it looks a bloody fan wiki, with fail grammar and spelling to boot. I'm happy to help out building them as a normal user, I've made tonnes of modifications on other wiki's and this one is hopefully going to be no different. I hope there's activity here and that the thing will look nice in a couple of weeks/months. Aikon91 13:51, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
::: No problem, delayed help is still help. ;-)  And yeah, there should be a separate page for a list of world bosses. Clarifying the difference between world bosses and other bosses would also be a good idea, since many think that Harpy Wraith is a world boss, instead of a quest boss, for example. :I've started a character template for people to use on their personal Wiki pages. Also, I'd like to point out I'm a total Template novice, so maybe a staff member can put up an in-depth guide on how to use other's templates on their own page. I know how to use mine, but I'm going to end up changing a lot to it, in time.
:On a side-note, the Wiki is small and it's too easy to just link to the main site for information. We should copy information onto this Wiki. As things are now, there's just Guides on the classes pages, we could sub-categorize them and link to them at an in-depth article on each class.
:I'm basically hoping SOMEONE replies here within the day.
:Also, I was/am Aikon91 up there, because the Wiki is using the nicknames we registered with, I just never read you guys linked it to the Wiki. ==Extensions==
:For #1, getting them to install anything here is quite difficult.  It took me about a year to get them to install some basic extensions here.  I'm assuming you're referring to the Help:Editing page, but that page links to the MediaWiki help info, which should cover most stuff.
I just looked, and you don't have any extensions installed.  I'd recommend at least installing ParserFunctions, as it allows for more elaborate templates.  The Cite extension is also nice if you want people to add references to articles.  Adding some of the antiabuse filters (like AbuseFilter, AntiBot, SpamBlacklist, TorBlock, and/or UploadBlacklist) might be a good idea as well.  Information on extensions can be found here along with a list of extensions here or here.  You can take a look here to see what extensions are installed at Wikipedia.  Thanks. -- <span style="color:#CCCCFF;font-weight:bold;">Sangodoc</span> <span style="color:#9999CC;font-weight:bold;">(talk)</span> 20:19, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
: #2, we don't have an item section because the Perfect World Database site does a far better and more complete job of than we could ever do here.  They have a system for automatically updating it, whereas it would require a backbreaking amount of manual labor to update it here, so it makes more sense to let them do that job.
:For the abuse filters, we don't really need those if we assign moderators to the Wiki that check the recent changes a lot. Other than that, if this place gets more interesting, people will join and scout the changes as well, you could grant a wiki anti-abuse support prize to people once a month. (Again, I will not be valid a prize for opting this.) -- Initian - Rawr :3 <small>Come talk to me! ^-^</small> 21:30, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
: #3 ...I don't know. It just happened this morning. I'm guessing they were messing with their servers/website and the image cache got wiped.  Unfortunately the wiki software only updates the wiki cache about once every 24 hours or so (which can be annoying when you update an image), so I'm waiting a day to see if it fixes itself.  If not, then I'll have to talk to FrankieRaye about fixing it.

FYI, the latest version of MediaWiki is v1.15.1, but for some reason we're running v1.13.3, which is around 10 months old.  You might want to see if you can get that updated as well. :No, what is done there should work (well, except for the Archer link, which shouldn't have the extra brackets).  I'm not sure why it doesn't work, so I suspect that it's either that the wiki is out of date (hence my "Version" section above) or it's missing an extension (though I don't know which one that would be).  I did a quick test with similar code on Wikipedia, and it worked fine.  For some reason this wiki is treating the link part as alt text instead of making the image work as a link.  So, yeah, the "link=" part of each line should be removed, but only until linking that way has been fixed.  Also, I don't think you can or even would want to put redirects on a file page. -- <span style="color:#CCCCFF;font-weight:bold;">Sangodoc</span> <span style="color:#9999CC;font-weight:bold;">(talk)</span> 19:02, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Noob Questions[edit]

Hey, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this kind of question, but I'll delete/move it if someone tells me to. This is the perfect place for those kinds of questions. To create a new page, either edit the URL above after "/index.php/" to have the name of the page you want, like "/index.php/Eyes_of_the_Krimson", and edit that page; or do a search on the name of the page you want, and then click on the link it creates near the top of the search page.

To add an image to a page you can just put a link to the image like this: , or you can use the Imagebox template (<-- link for more info) if you want something a bit more advanced. Keep in mind that clicking on the Edit link at the top of any page will let you see the source, so you can copy any useful code from other pages.
Also, you might want to note the PWI Quest Bosses page, if you want a starting point to link all of the quest bosses together. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. And thanks for helping out.  :-) -- Sangodoc - PWI wiki mod (talk) 21:27, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

1. Why have you not installed the help section for the wiki?
2. Why don't you have a item section?
3. Why did the images on the main page disappear? This is the message I see :
