The Perfect World software has a built-in check for bots, but it is normally disabled and has not been entirely translated into English from Chinese. So far it has popped up on two different occasions on the Archosaur server.

How to Answer the Pop-up[edit]

File:HackCheck.png
If you should happen to see the "Anti-hack question" pop-up above, you can get past the hack check like this:

  1. Look for the Chinese character with quote marks around it.
  2. Count the examples of the quoted character in the box on the right.
  3. Select value that equals the number of times the quoted character appears.

Then just click the "Reply!" button.

You also get some free EXP and SP from answering the question correctly.

FAQ[edit]

Q) What is the point of this pop-up?
A) It's supposed to catch people playing using "bots", that is, people who are gaining EXP/SP/coins/mats while not actually at the computer. This is a violation of the Terms of Service agreement, and is bannable. Hypothetically speaking, a bot will only be able to answer correctly 25% of the time, while humans should almost always be able to answer it.

Q) Why is this appearing?
A) Well, the first time it appeared it was due to a setting on the server being wrong. In other words, it's nothing you did, it's a problem that PWE needs to fix.

Q) How long will it take them to fix it?
A) If it's happening again then how long it will take them to fix it is anybody's guess. A fix will probably come sooner if the problem happens during business hours than if it happens on the weekend. You can check the General Discussion forum and there will probably be some information there.

Q) What happens if I answer wrong?
A) You get disconnected after a little while and banned from the game for 5 minutes. That's it. When you log back in after 5 minutes the pop-up may still be there if they haven't fixed the problem yet. Repeated failures do not increase your ban time.

Q) I don't know Chinese! How am I supposed to answer the question!?!
A) Relax. You don't need to know Chinese, you just need to find a symbol in quotes and count the appearances of that symbol.

Q) Is there any way to avoid the hack check?
A) There are unconfirmed reports that it does not appear when you are in a safe zone or if you are constantly moving from one area to another. So, you should be safe from it if you set up a catshop in a city, for example, but not if you were out grinding on some mobs outside of town.

Q) I'm worried, does this mean my account was hacked?
A) No, nothing was hacked. "Anti-hack" is really a bad translation, "Anti-bot" would be more accurate. So don't worry, you can play the game with as much safety as you had before the pop-up started appearing.

If you have any other questions, please put them on the talk page. Thank you.  :-)
