Talk:Genie Guides
Suggestion[edit]
It looks good I would just add the points needed for it to "evolve" in looks -- Feely 15:44, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
A Few Errors?[edit]
well my original post was here http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=372782 but moved to the lower depths, so I guess I'll put them here;
I noticed the double paste of "How many skills do genies come with?" under the Skills section, and shouldn't it be "How many available/empty skill slots do genies come with?" ?
and a possible fix for the description... "By default, it has 3 empty skill slots. You can obtain an additional skill slot with every 40 INT points allocated to the genie. For example, when your genie's INT reaches 40, you obtain one additional skill slot. INT at 80 earns another skill slot etc." -- Darkjagans 07:19, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Still more errors to be fixed. In one spot the elemental affinities are given with Water listed twice, "Lucky" is misspelled as "Lucly" in another, and "Genie’s can forget skills" should be "Genies can forget skills", just to name a few. -- Sangodoc (talk) 00:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
A few other suggestions[edit]
In the introduction it talks about the "Watcher of the Skies", however (on Dreamweaver at least) this NPC is called "Watcher of the Earth". All other parts of this guide refer to him as "Watcher of the Earth" or "the new NPC", the latter of those two should be fixed.
The line "some skills are race specific" should be "some skills are class specific". Your example, Rainbow Blessing, is actually restricted to clerics, not the winged elf race as stated in the Introduction section.
The "Genie's Main Screen" section should explain how to bring up the Genie's main screen (a common stumbling block for newbies.)
In the "Skills - How many skills do genies come with?" subsection you should clarify the difference between "skills" and "skill slots". I'd change the last line of that section to say this instead, "For example, when your genies INT reaches 40, it will go from having 3 skill slots to 4 skill slots. INT at 80 will have 5 skill slots, etc...."
The "Can you Equip your Genie?" section needs to be updated for all of the new equipment and ways to equip genies.
The guide does not mention that you can buy genies from the Watcher of the Earth for 3 Mirage Celestones.
And it should probably be mentioned somewhere that combining chi stones to feed to your genie is a waste of chi. -- Sangodoc 03:14, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your suggestions: (some more will be added/updated/changed when the contest is over...)
1) I was not aware the names were different on the servers. Maybe it is location of the NPC? I will have to check when I am online again.
2) Good point on how to bring up the "main screen," I may add that and if I do credit will be given to you!!
3) The "skill" section has been re-vamped several times with several people thinking it should be explained this way or that. What I may do is combine, or list the different ways people look at the "skills." There are a few sections in which this is mentioned and I think mentioned in a few ways. Combing these mgith be easier, I will look at it.
4) Yes, it was never mentioned taking into account that this is a beginner guide for those who receive there "free" Genie. This will be updated later as it should be mentioned for htose who decide they do want another one.
5) I have mentioned about the Chi stones and there are different ways to look at it. But I do agree with you that the Perfect stones are "a waste" and that the lower level ones will give you more for less.
THANK YOU for your suggestions and they have been noted. When the contest is over, more will be added nd your suggestions will be given credit!!

11/7 --> I added a Genie Skill Planner (from my other account name...opps), that was made by Asterelle. I think that it will help those who have requested information on how to add Affinities and those that have had skill questions!!

Starting Stats of Genies errors[edit]
The starting stats of genies should have two at 5, one at 15, and one at 3, instead of three at 5 and one at 15. The Discipline genie starts with Str = 3, for example. I looked around and couldn't find level 1 genies for sale of the other three types, but I'm pretty sure the Infliction genie starts with Vit = 3. -- Sangodoc (talk) 04:01, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, Infliction starts with Vit = 3, and Longevity starts with Magic = 3, so Zeal must start with Dex = 3. -- Sangodoc (talk) 02:49, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Feeding Genies Question[edit]
Your guide says to be sure the genie is equipped when you feed it Chi stones. I kept trying to drag Chi stones onto the genie party portrait (genie equipped) and it didn't work. I had to actually unequip the genie and drag the Chi stones onto the genie while it was in my inventory to get it to work. Would you mind double-checking this? -- Enikuo (talk) 15:53, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Not tested putting the genie in inventory - but yes, you drag the stones onto the genie square in the slot, not onto the portrait/skillbar thing. -- Vitenks (talk) 17:09, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- The guide is partially incorrect. It doesn't matter if the genie is equipped or not, you just have to drag the chi stones onto it in your inventory. -- Sangodoc (talk) 06:26, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Possible addition to Lucky Points section[edit]
In between the first and second chart:
"A Genie will become displayed as gold, for example, as soon as it reaches 61 Lucky Points, but not before, no matter how many points per level it gets on the way.
High level genies, e.g. a Lv.80 genie that is purple (63-75% of max), can be less lucky genies for their level than low levels, e.g. a blue Lv.50 genie, even one with only 41 luck points (80% of max). Therefore, color is considerably less accurate a guide to how lucky a Genie is than comparing the number of luck points to the level.
This is most important when it comes to the advantage that luck gives that goes beyond aesthetics: additional skills. As the chart below shows, the 5th through 8th bonus skills require relatively high Luck Points. Using the genies from our previous example, we see that the purple Lv.80 genie is destined to have a maximum of six skills, but the blue Lv.50 genie could get the highest number, eight. Applying the principle of "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", the Lv.80 is also assured of getting no less than six skill slots, whereas should the Lv.50 be quite unlucky, it could receive as little as five.
Players wanting to maximize their genies must be ruthless with discarding ones that receive low points at low levels. As the probability chart below shows, the chances are weighted towards receiving low or high points, which tends to make this decision easier. There is a 55% chance of getting a 3/10 or worse genie; not worth keeping if the player is aiming for seven skill slots. There is a 34% chance of getting a 9/10 or better genie; obviously these are keepers."

- That mostly seems kind of redundant/obvious to me. Having more skill slots is more important than appearance, and skill slots are tied to lucky points, therefore a high lucky point ratio is better. Have you seen people in the forums or the game who were confused about that after seeing the information that's already in the article? If so, go ahead and put it in, but otherwise it's probably not necessary. A "How to Get a Lucky Genie" section explaining how high levels can make multiple genies, level them up, when to give up on and decompose them, etc... until they get a good genie might be useful though. -- Sangodoc - PWI wiki mod (talk) 11:39, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
genie leveling strategies[edit]
would a discussion of when and how to level one's genie be useful, perhaps?
the last section has a note to "please do not ever use your exp" (to level up one's genie), but that doesn't seem universally applicable to me. dumping XP into a genie to slow down one's leveling, for farming purposes or even just to get more SP per level for skills, seems to be a common strategy in low-to-mid level ranges. myself, i'd be loathe to ever use anything BUT xp to level my genie; i can't spare any spirit, at my level. probably this changes towards endgame, but when?
