Soul Degeneration[edit]

I might be being stupid - but why is soul degen particularly useful on un-ampable bosses?

Amp is obviously less useful there, but does that magically make soul-degen better? Or am I misreading and these are more examples of high-regen-rate bosses? (In which case some clarification would be good) --Vitenka 16:43, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I think it's simply that, since you can't curse a target with both Amplify Damage and Soul Degeneration at the same time, targets that are immune to Amplify Damage might as well get hit with Soul Degeneration instead. I'm sure lots of venos forget they even have Soul Degeneration, since they usually only use Amplify Damage. So it's probably more that any curse is better than no curse. Just my interpretation though. -- Sangodoc - PWI wiki mod (talk) 12:59, 21 June 2011 (PDT)
I haven't 'studied' Nirvana in depth yet since I haven't done that many runs but I have found Soul Degeneration particularly useful to the bosses that are immune to Amplify Damage. Reasons are: the 3rd boss (although is not immune to amp) has a great regeneration rate if I'm not mistaken and some fast squads prefer to kill it without killing the foxes that normally prevent the squad from killing the boss (they cause fast regeneration I suppose but I need to confirm that somehow). I have been told that when I was in a 4.0/5.0 squad (they prefered soul degen over amp). For the squads that kill/have to kill the foxes I use soul degeneration that comes in more handy while herc-tanking the boss waiting for them (better stop the regen than trying to kill the boss...because you won't manage to get his hp down too much anyway). Also some of the bosses there have you run or well..I've faced a lot of semi-squad wipes so I went ahead using soul degeneration while waiting for my squad to get back up (since I couldn't use amplify to help the remaining DDs). I hope my answer is not too confusing x_x --Catgirldesu 10:35, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
If anything, I'd say it's useful on the second boss in Nirvana. You should be in Fox Form already to Purge him since he buffs his defenses. This boss can be one of the longer fights depending on how often he buffs himself (which is regularly). Throwing in SD helps the longer fights in particular. I rarely see the 3rd boss (foxes) getting SD'd, but then most squads that I go with we round up all the foxes and AOE them with the boss. In nirvana, you should be dropping into Fox Form to use Fox Myriad Rainbow, so it's usually to throw an SD on the boss when you're down for that. It's not one of the best skills, but it can still speed things up. --Flyingsoloist 10:18, 1 July 2011 (PDT)
